Orphaned Oak
The first box
This is the first chest I made. A very solid and heavy chest, made from pieces of my mother's old dining table, and with a top made from pieces of a solid oak-framed three-piece suite we bought in Holland, where they are very keen on dark brown oak furniture. I put black iron fittings on the box, because it felt right.

My daughter advised me that it should not be allowed to rest on possibly damp ground, so I raised it off the ground slightly with short feet, and this is something I tend to do now with most of the larger boxes I make.
All the table's panels were tongued and grooved, and I had to shorten the panels and cut new tongues to reduce them to a size suitable for make the sides of the box.
